Back Pain

Lower back pain affects up to 80% of people at some point in their lives. It's rarely a sign of anything serious, but it's one of the most common reasons people take time off work and struggle with everyday movement — and most people recover well within six weeks with the right care.

Lower back pain is an extremely common condition — up to 80% of people will experience it at some point in their lives. The underlying cause usually isn't serious, but it's a major reason people take time off work, and it can have a real impact on day-to-day movement and comfort.

Most people recover within six weeks. A smaller number go on to develop chronic back pain and a gradual decline in function, which is why getting an accurate diagnosis and starting the right treatment early matters.

Causes

Most back pain comes from irritation or poor function in the bones, joints, ligaments or muscles of the back — often vertebral dysfunction, where spinal vertebrae compress or irritate nearby nerve structures. Other causes include inflammatory arthritis (such as ankylosing spondylitis or rheumatoid arthritis) and fractures related to osteoporosis. Pain can also be referred from elsewhere in the body.

Assessment

Your physiotherapist carries out a detailed history along with an orthopaedic, neurological and spinal examination to identify the exact cause of your lower back pain. X-rays or digital scanning may be recommended where needed.

Treatment approach

Treatment focuses on restoring movement to poorly-functioning spinal joints, reducing muscle tension and building strength — improving movement, reducing pain and easing nerve irritation. Plans are tailored to the individual, typically combining spinal and soft-tissue mobilisation, core stabilisation advice, strengthening exercises, stretching and electrotherapy.

Private patients and NDIS participants don't need one. DVA, Medicare or work-injury clients need a GP referral to be covered — we bulk bill DVA, WorkCover and CTP clients.

Which suburbs do you visit?

We cover a large part of North Brisbane and Moreton Bay. Call 1300 895 169 and we'll tell you straight away if we can reach you.

Use the contact form on our website and a team member will call within 24 hours, or call us directly to book a session.

What are the payment methods?

Cash and card are accepted on the day. NDIS, WorkCover and DVA clients are invoiced directly through their plan manager or case officer.

What equipment do you have?

Our team carries all the equipment needed to deliver a comprehensive service in the comfort of your own home.

What should I wear?

Light, comfortable clothing you can move freely in.

What happens during a consultation?

A comprehensive assessment and treatment during the session, which may include massage, joint mobilisation and exercise prescription, followed by a detailed home exercise program.

When do I pay?

Either before or after your consultation, whichever is easier for you.

Can I use my private health fund card and just pay the gap?

No — private health rebates need to be claimed online after your invoice is paid. We don't have a health-fund terminal for on-the-spot gap payments.
